Until 5 years ago, Svetla Ivanova’s educational and professional background had been entirely in the finance sector. After deciding to switch careers, she went from a finance expert to a software developer with the help of Telerik Academy. Investing in master junior talent

According to the latest BASSCOM annual study of the Bulgarian software industry, the number of employees in it has increased with 15% compared to last year. This makes for a staggering 3,563 new jobs in the hottest sector in the country. At the same time, just 12,9% of all students are pursuing STEАM degrees. Does this mean the gap between companies’ needs and professionals available on the market will keep widening even further? It doesn’t have to.

Making a leap from construction to the IT industry ​

Rusi Rusev graduated from Telerik Academy Alpha with JavaScript in May and shortly after that kickstarted his first IT career as Junior Front-End Developer at Gtmhub. His university education and professional experience, however, were in an entirely different field. Rusi has a master’s degree in “Structural Engineering” and worked in the construction industry for a while. When he felt the need for a change, he turned to Telerik Academy to successfully switch careers.

Bulgaria ranks first in female ICT specialists among the EU countries

More than 30% of all ICT specialists in Bulgaria are women, according to Eurostat. This is the story of two of them - Maria and Iskra. They changed their careers and joined the IT industry with the help of Telerik Academy. “For the last 10 years, there is a clear upward trend for more women joining and graduating our Academy,” shared our CEO Alexandra Mechkova for BTV.

Close to 100% of Telerik Academy graduates successfully start their careers

Almost all of Telerik Academy graduates (98%) successfully start a career in the IT industry. More than half of them (58%) receive remunerations higher than the ones in the software industry and for 80% their salaries are higher than the average for the country.

97% of the Telerik Academy Alpha graduates today live and work in Bulgaria. Nearly 70% start working in IT in less than 2 months from their studies’ end, followed soon after by the rest. Almost all are very happy with their current living standard.
