If you're interested in pursuing a career in the IT industry and enjoy solving problems, then QA engineering could be the perfect fit for you. This role plays a crucial part in software development, ensuring that applications meet their intended functionality, reliability, and performance, which is why there is such high demand for QA engineers.

As a QA, you get to enjoy the best of both worlds: software development, quality management, and team collaboration. There's never a dull day in this profession, as QAs experiment with new technologies, devices, and platforms on a daily basis.

But don't just take our word for it! Hear from two experienced QA engineers, Diana Gospodinova and Nikolay Avramov, who will share their insights on the role of a QA and the skills needed to become one. They are also the lead trainers at Telerik Academy Alpha QA.

In this blog, you will also meet Victor Valtchev, technical trainer at Telerik Academy and get a sneak peek into the program that can help you launch your career as a QA engineer.

And you still have the chance to join Alpha QA and become a QA in 6 months - the admission for the program is open until 11:59 pm on April 4!

Let’s start with the basics - what does a QA engineer do?

"The role of QA specialists in software development cannot be overstated. From the outset of software development, we prioritize product quality to ensure end-users satisfaction. With our unwavering focus and attention to detail, we work tirelessly to ensure that the final product meets the highest standards of excellence. By consistently meeting and exceeding expectations, we take pride in the satisfaction of a job well done," explains Diana Gospodinova.

Diana started her career in the IT sector 10 years ago, and since then, she has completed two of our programs: Alpha Java and Alpha QA. However, as she often says, "once a QA, always a QA." Today, she holds the position of Head of QA at flatexDEGIRO and a QA technical trainer at Alpha QA, where she is devoted to helping people prepare for the IT sector.

"In today's competitive market, quality assurance is a vital component of success. It provides a significant advantage over rivals vying for the same customers and market share. The level of superiority one can achieve over others is directly determined by the efficacy of their QA processes, ensuring that products are of the highest quality and meet or exceed customer expectations," shared Nikolay Avramov, Automation Lead at Automate the Planet and QA technical trainer at Alpha QA.

With more than 10 years of experience in IT, Nikolay had several career paths to choose from at the beginning of his career - software development, technical support, or QA. His natural curiosity and problem-solving skills led him to pursue the latter, where he could combine his talents in bug-finding and fixing, communication, coding, and more. The QA profession allowed him to utilize his full skill set and interests.

What skills do you need to become a QA engineer?

"QA engineering is a great opportunity for anyone willing to learn and interested in new technologies. You have to be able to put yourself in other people's shoes - we often have to look from the customer's point of view when testing. To become a successful QA, in addition to technical knowledge, you must also be flexible, curious, and resourceful," shared Nikolay.

"Adaptability and proactivity are crucial traits for a QA engineer. In this profession, there is always something new to learn from day one, and we must always be ready to adapt to changes. If you enjoy facing challenges and finding solutions, then a career in QA engineering is the right path for you," added Diana Gospodinova.

What are the development opportunities for a QA?

"Working as a QA, you develop one of the most sought-after skills in the IT field, like communicating with different teams, finding problems and points for improvements, and adapting to the sector's dynamic. These qualities will make you the so-called universal soldier, allowing you to develop in various directions after a while - development, project management, DevOps," shared Nikolay.

It’s time for the most important question.
