To learn more about the company, its goals, culture, and the importance of junior IT talent, we talked with Veselin Aleksandrov, Managing Director of Software AG in Bulgaria since 2015.

Veselin has more than 20 years of professional experience in the IT sector, 14 of which at Software AG.

Can you tell us a bit about Software AG? What does the company do?

We are a German software company, established in 1969. Since then, we’ve helped the transformation of 10,000 businesses, and we are happy to have 50% of Fortune 100 companies among our customers. Today, we have more than 400 partners and 4500+ employees worldwide.

Over the years, we’ve created a suite of products, including API, Integration & Microservices, IoT & Analytics, and Business Transformation. Our solutions can work side-by-side with existing infrastructure – or replace it. We can help any enterprise by integrating and connecting everything to everything, ensuring our clients can instantly see, decide, and act in the best possible way.

Software AG has offices around the world. What is the main objective of the local office?

As the Managing Director of the Software AG’s local office, I’m delighted that it’s one of the company’s largest Research and Development (RnD) centers in the world!

Our main objective is to ensure Software AG products meet all of our clients’ custom needs and requirements. Therefore, we have RnD teams that are focused on developing new and upgrading existing products, but also teams that are in close communication with our clients. They are focused on adapting and implementing our customized products to our clients’ businesses just the way they need them.

Do you still hire talent in Bulgaria despite COVID-19?

At the beginning of 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic started in Bulgaria, we swiftly shifted to the online mode of recruitment, and since then, we’ve never stopped hiring. Moreover, we currently have over 30 job openings, and we anticipate having some additional more in the upcoming months, so yes, we’re still actively seeking new talents.

Why do you invest in junior talent?

We’ve always invested in junior talents – a lot of our current employees started working for Software AG as interns and juniors and developed their careers with us. Some of them are part of the team for more than 5 years, others – for 10+ years!

We invest in junior developers because we appreciate their thinking and different approach to solving problems. I believe that this is very useful in big teams with various projects and tasks.

At Software AG, we provide a variety of development programs and courses, so our juniors can gradually upskill and become seniors and future managers, leading our development teams.

Why did you choose Telerik Academy as your partner to that end?

We believe that Telerik Academy is one of the best IT academies in Bulgaria. Your programs, especially the Alpha with Java, have proven themselves in preparing young talents for a successful start of their IT career.

We’ve been partnering with Telerik Academy for some years now, and we have a few amazing talents who joined our team right after graduating from the Academy.

What is your vision for the Software AG office in Sofia? What is next?

We are expecting more new roles to be opened in Sofia by the end of this year. Therefore, we anticipate seriously expand one of our global teams focused on Cloud and IT Security.
